BREAKING NEWS: HINES WARD RETIRES (FINALLY)

The greatest Steelers wide receiver ever has decided to spare himself the embarrassment of wearing an NFL uniform other than the greatest one ever -- the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Three weeks after being released by the Steelers, Hines Ward has announced his retirement from pro football.  Ward has petitioned the Steelers leadership to allow him to take a pay cut and stay on the roster.  After the Steelers released him, Ward stated his intention to play somewhere else.

Steeler Nation can only assume that the market for his services was pretty cold, which likely prompted his retirement announcement.  It's too bad that Ward and the Steelers could not have agreed on this outcome three weeks sooner, so that the announcement of his release could have been an announcement of his retirement with all the appropriate fanfare that he deserves.

The Steeler Face believes that the Steelers tried to persuade Ward to retire before his release.  Unfortunately, it took this for Ward to see that the NFL is a young man's game.  However, Ward should hold his head high -- he is the greatest wide receiver for the greatest team ever, and now, it will be the only NFL uniform he ever wore and ever should have.  Thanks for the many memories Hines!
