Upon my arrival at the players' gate, I told the security guard via the intercom that I had an appointment for an MRI (I didn't mention I was a Steeler fan). I was allowed to enter and parked here--
Proscan Imaging on the left, Bengals football on the right |
Geathers pulled up while I was waiting outside for someone from Proscan to take me in the facility. He nodded and mumbled something at me. I said "hello" politely, but didn't want to intrude any further. He must have been wondering, "why is this middle-aged Steeler fan sitting out here? Is he being punished or something?"
Eventually, someone from Proscan drove up in a cart and took me inside the stadium. We drove past the Bengals fitness center to the Proscan suite. Another Bengals player (that I didn't recognize by name) was waiting for his image results. He had a knee brace on and seemed to be in a very somber mood. I wondered if that was because of his injury, or the fact he played for the Bengals. The fact that he's injured means he should probably play for the Steelers anyway. What struck me about this young man was how young he looked (and is). Without his Bengals leisure wear, I would have taken him for one my students at the university.
As I went into the room for the MRI I saw this . . . and this . . .
I'm in the jungle baby! |
Yes, that is Super Bowl XXIII memorabilia. Yes, the Bengals lost Super Bowl XXIII. |
