Steelers make it easy, beat Bungles 35-7

The never-make-it-easy Steelers made it easy for once as Pittsburgh beat the Bungles like the Bungles should be beaten: 35-7.  It was also a record setting day for the black-and-gold:

  • The Steelers made it easy.
  • Big Ben became the most often sacked QB in Steelers history with 27,368,985,872,101 (topping Terry Bradshaw).

  • Big Ben now has the most passing yardage in Steelers history (again, besting Terry Bradshaw).  Bradshaw called his own plays, Ben plays with broken thumbs, toes, nose, feet, cracked ribs, concussions, fever, appendectomies, and no pass protection.
  • Hines Ward now has 12,000 career yards receiving for Pittsburgh.
  • The Steelers had a punt return for a touchdown for the first time in 78 regular season games when Super Bowl XLIII MVP Santonio Holmes did it (Holmes also did it in a playoff game against San Diego in 2009 as part of the Steelers run to Super Bowl XLIII).
  • And, the Steeler Face's basement hosted its first ever "air towel" rendition of Renegade!

Yes, today's game was a rare treat for Steeler Nation.  In addition to the records noted above, other highlights include Mike Wallace bringing in two TD receptions, Rashard Mendenhall (who looked and ran like "The Bus") rushing for two TDs, Cameron Heyward blocking a 33-yard field goal attempt, James Harrison's "sack-trick" (taking down Cincy QB Dalton three times), and Ike Taylor's interception (that brought on the "air towel").

Most of the highlights occurred in the second quarter when Pittsburgh scored 28 points.  After Mendenhall second his second touchdown to put the Steelers up 14-0, the bumbling Bungles bungled the kick off and Emmanuel Sanders recovered the fumble.  Three plays later Big Ben connected with Wallace for a 21-0 lead.  Brown's sparkling punt return went for 60 yards with 1:33 to play to make it 28-7 at halftime.  This game was so well in hand by the fourth quarter that Big Ben was able to rest as Charlie Glass came in relief.

This is a nice win for the Steelers (9-3), so enjoy it while you can Steeler Nation.  This will be a short week, as Pittsburgh is back in action for Thursday Night Football when the Brownie Elves come to town.
