Steelers set seven cherry record at the Blevins household, defeat Arizona 32-20
The Pittsburgh Steelers scored seven times on three touchdowns, three field goals and a safety, resulting in the consumption of a record setting seven whiskey soaked cherries for all adults 21 years and older at the Blevins household on Sunday afternoon. If you haven't had one before they taste just like being hit in the head by a cherry with a brick stuffed inside it.
The seven cherry record wasn't the only one of note on Sunday, as Big Ben connected with Mike Wallace on a 95-yard touchdown pass, breaking the Steelers previous team record of 90 yards set three times earlier (Terry Bradshaw to Mark "QB-slash-WR" Malone in 1981; and by Bubby Brister to Dwight Stone from the Tecmo Bowl era of 1990; and again by Kordell F. Stewart to Bobby Shaw in 2001).
In addition, Antonio Brown had his first 100 yards receiving day for the Steelers, while adding another 100 yards in kick returns.
Big Ben had another big game for the Steelers, completing 26 of 39 pass attempts for 361 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Ben's 95 yard touchdown pass to Wallace put the Steelers up 14-0 in the second quarter.
It looked like Pittsburgh could run away with it, but Arizona had trimmed the lead to 17-14 midway through the third quarter. Big Ben's third touchdown pass of game put the Steelers up 24-14, and then Arizona was called for holding in the endzone, which any Steeler fan who suffered through Pittsburgh's Super Bowl XLIII victory knows is a safety. The Steelers led 26-14 going into the fourth quarter, and held on for a 32-20 win.
The Steelers are now 5-2 and no team has more wins in the AFC. The other team that does, the New England Cheatriots (5-1) will visit Heinz Field next Sunday. The Cheatriots' film crew will arrive on Wednesday to start videotaping the Steelers practices so that New England coaches can learn Pittsburgh's hand signals for play calls better than the Steelers.
The AFC North leading Ravens are 4-1 (and will most likely be 5-1 after they stomp Jacksonville on Monday Night Football). The Ravens will follow the Cheatriots into Heinz Field, so the next couple of weeks will be a pivotal moment in the season for the Steelers. Pittsburgh can't afford another loss to Baltimore if they expect to win the division this year, and it sure would be nice if the Steelers could beat Brady and the merry band of cheaters from New England for the first time since 2004.
