Coping with the Steelers
So, how does Steeler Nation cope when the beloved Steelers aren't meeting 'the standard' (besides drinking, of course)?
There's fantasy football, but your team is probably suffering equal to the Steelers, especially if you own any Steeler player besides Mike Wallace. There's post-season baseball, but only if you're a Steeler fan that resides outside of Pittsburgh (and your team made the playoffs). I happen to be from the St. Louis area and follow the baseball Cardinals. However, that hasn't done much to keep down the obscenities, and merely transfers the obsessive compulsive behaviors for a temporary amount of time.
That leaves the rest of the time to keep dwelling over the hits that keep coming for the Steelers. Steeler Nation learned this week that Big Ben has a foot sprain, and James Harrison will be out indefinitely with an eye injury. On top of that Aaron Smith, Jason Worilds, Mewelde Moore and Rashard Mendenhall are also suffering from an assortment of ailments.
And that's not all of the Steelers worries. Skippy wonder-boy Matt Masselbeck and the resurgent 3-1 TenneWho Titans are visiting the struggling 2-2 Steelers this weekend at Heinz Field. Hasselbeck has thrown for 8 TDs and has only been sacked four times all season. Ben was dropped more than that in the last game alone, and absorbed 14 sacks for the year, prompting Pittsburgh's front office to finally take the advice of The Steeler Face and re-sign offensive tackle Max Starks. By the way, let's hope he protecting Ben's blindside.
D = 43 x 10
Steeler Nation is now left ponder what the Steelers have in mind to improve their defense. My recommendation is to get a team of scientists to clone Polamalu (d=43x10). Seriously, this team has too much talent to be performing so poorly, and its high time for someone (anyone) besides Troy Polamalu to show up.
And until someone does, I can't justify forecasting a Steelers win this week. Given that the Titans beat the Ravens 26-13, and the Ravens beat the Steelers 35-7, I'll take the Titans over Pittsburgh by a 47-6 count (The Steeler Face is 2-2 picking Steeler games this year).
